Services and Programs on the Backup

Client

The nsrd service calls upon the Backup client service, nsrexecd, and several programs on the client when a scheduled or on-demand backup request is received. A temporary server agent service, ansrd, starts on the Backup server to monitor the progress of the backup session. TABLE 2-2describes the services and programs on the Backup client.

This program browses the Backup server's client file index and restores the specified file to primary disk storage.
This program sends specified files in a multiplexed data stream to the Backup server for backup to media by

How Backup Backs Up Data

When you configure a backup groupon the Backup server, you schedule a start time for the backup group. The nsrdservice starts the server's savegrpprogram for the backup group at the scheduled time.
The
savegrpprogram queries the client resources configured on the Backup server to determine:
*Which clients configured on the server are members of the scheduled group *What level of backup (save) to perform
*When the most recent backup of the group occurred
If any of this information is not available on the Backup server, the
savegrp programsends a request (sometimes called a probe) to the nsrexecdclient service to run savefson each client assigned to the backup group to gather the necessary details.
