How Backup Services and Programs Interact during a Scheduled Backup

FIGURE 2-5

How Backup Recovers Data

When Backup receives a recoverrequest from a client, the server's nsrdmaster service contacts the server's nsrmmdmedia service. The nsrmmdservice contacts the server's nsrmmdbdmedia database service to determine which media contain the save set requested by the recoverprogram. After nsrmmdfinds the save set on media, nsrmmdissues a mount request, the media is positioned to the beginning of the save set, and the save set stored on the mounted media is passed to nsrmmd. The media service forwards the save set to the client's recoverprogram which restores the data to the client's file system.
