Lernziele und Inhalt
Lecture Objectives and Contents
In dieser Veranstaltung erhalten die Studenten ein vertiefendes Verständnis von Systemsoftware zur Unterstützung verteilter Rechnersysteme – einschließlich der dabei notwendigen Sicherheitsaspekte. Dazu gehören u.a. anwendungsnahe Kommunikations- und Kooperationstechniken, erweiterte Betriebssystemfunktionen, Unterstützung für Datenbankanwendungen usw. sowie jeweils die zugehörigen Sicherheitsmechanismen.
Aus dem Bereich Verteilte Systeme werden folgende Themen behandelt: Entfernter Prozeduraufruf, Namensverwaltung, Zeitsynchronisation, verteiltes Dateisystem, verteilte Transaktionsverwaltung, Zugang zu Datenbanken in verteilten Systemen, Middleware & relevante Standards und ausgewählte Anwendungsbeispiele.
Aus dem Bereich Informationssicherheit werden die Themen Safety und Fehlertoleranz, Kryptographie, Steganographie und Digital Rights Management behandelt.
In this course students obtain a deeper understanding of system software to support distributed computing systems - including the necessary aspects of Information Security. This includes, among others, application-oriented communication and cooparation technologies, advanced operating systems functions, support for database applications, etc. as well as the associated security mechanisms.
The follow topics will be covered in the Distributed Systems part of the lecture: Remote procedure calls, naming, time synchronization, distributed filesystems and transactions, access to databases in distributed systems, middleware and relevant standards as well as selected applications.
The follow topics will be covered in the Information Security part of the lecture: Safety and fault tolerance, cryptography, steganography and digital rights management.
Course Organization and Availability
Organisation und Zyklus
Die vierstündige Vorlesung besteht aus zwei unabhängigen Teilen (A: 2 SWS Verteilte Systeme, B: 2 SWS Informationssicherheit) und wird regelmäßig im Wintersemester angeboten. Sie wird begleitet von einer zweistündigen Übung. Zur Klausur (je Vorlesungsteil 60 Minuten Bearbeitungsdauer) sind keine schriftlichen Unterlagen erlaubt ("closed book"). Angaben ohne Gewähr
The four-hour course consists of two independent parts (A: 2 SWS Distributed Systems, B: 2 SWS Information Security) and is offerd regularly in the winter term. It is accompanied by a two-hour tutorial (Übung). The final grade is obtained via a written "closed book" exam (60 minutes time per lecture, no materials can be brought to the exam).
