Abstract: HERMES is a multibit, systolic array architecture. It receives the image data directly from the environment, using a 2-D photoarray the cells of which are processed in a parallel-hierarchical (bottom-up and top-down) manner without the use of a host computer for its function. The paper deals with the Petri-net modelling of working mechanisms (bottom-up and top-down), and low-level vision tasks of the HERMES multiprocessor vision machine.
