Abstract: The authors describe a modeling language which aims at integrating both requirement specification and process simulation in the field of computer integrated manufacturing (CIM) systems. Such a language allows a complex system to be represented by means of a conceptual model which is based on an extension to the entity-relationship approach which captures the dynamic properties of the objects. Entities are specialized into states and the transitions from one state to another are expressed using a Petri net based formalism called PROT net.
