Abstract: The authors present a coherent method for different possible structures evaluation of a flexible assembly system. The input data is the assembly sequence. A functional diagram is used to describe all the functions to be realized. The possible workstation and cells distributions are developed with the corresponding equipment assignment. A timed Petri net is automatically deduced providing a simulation of the corresponding assembly system performances.
