Abstract: In order to incorporate the notion of time into Petri nets, most researchers have associated a firing delay with transitions. In the context of Stochastic Timed Petri Nets, the firing times are almost always exponentially distributed. Other distributions may be warranted in some cases and therefore several researchers have described how to incorporate non-exponential distributions into Stochastic Timed Petri Nets. The authors refer to this as as the extension Problem and demonstrate natural and compact Generalized Stochastic Petri Net representations for several non-exponential distributions.

Keywords: non-exponential distribution; stochastic timed net.
