Abstract: In this paper we introduce the concepts and the notation of the Common Base. The Common Base is the basis of `Petri Net Baukasten' and provides a common reference system for the different views. The main part of the Common Base is a Petri net Classification, which summarizes the rich variety of existing Petri net types in a clear graphical scheme. Furthermore the Common Base contains a glossary, where the concepts used in the Petri net classification are explained.
