Abstract: A stochastic Petri nets (SPN) model of RAID-5 is presented. The model and its Markov chain are used to calculate the average utilization of disk drives in RAID for a small write and large I/O request. The model presented in this paper provides a convenient method to calculate the performance of RAID systems.
