Abstract: This paper presents a multi-agent system approach to specification, verification, design and implementation of control/monitoring system for flexible manufacturing systems (FMSs). The dynamic aspects of the control/monitoring system are represented using the SA-RT/OBJ method, a functional approach extended by object Petri nets and interpreted Petri nets. The paper emphasizes the agent communication strategy and the monitoring system in the proposed architecture. Different kinds of information, on which the diagnosis system is based, are specified for each agent.
