Abstract: A generalized stochastic Petri net (GSPN) model is presented for the modeling and analysis of a burst switching integrated voice/data service. Analyses are performed in terms of the data delay, voice blocking probability, and voice cutoff fraction of the service node. In order to model the network properly, the concept of an overflow arc is introduced into the GSPN. Based on the analysis, a modification to an original burst switching network is presented. Analysis has shown that the new strategy reduces the problem of an unstable data queue in heavy traffic.
