Abstract: Petri nets are principally useful as an aid to describe event orientated simulation processes. As an example the authors show how Petri nets may be used to simulate a chemical production plant in a way which combines interval and event orientated simulation. A special interest is given to the process monitoring.

Keywords: simulation (of a) chemical production system; event orientated simulation; interval orientated simulation; process monitoring.
