Abstract: In this paper we want to investigate the possibilities of designing a textual interchange format for Petri Nets based on XML and the schema language DSD (Document Structure Description). The main aim is to show that the expressiveness of the DSD language is powerful enough to restrict the conforming XML documents to the class of legal Petri Nets. Furthermore this implies that the integrity of a representation can be verified at all steps of an interchange by utilising a simple validator.
