Abstract: The need for a common interchange format in the Petri net community exists since a multiplicity of tools have been developed. The recent efforts towards an XML based notation sets new light on a topic which has been worked on by several people before. We do not overview, summarize or compare existing approaches. This paper only provides some experiences and personal opinions related to the development of an existing interchange format, the so-called Abstract Petri Net Notation (APNN).
