Abstract: A discrete process model is advanced in the form of a `structured neural-like network' (SNLN) which explicitly describes the parallelism, modularity, hierarchy, and subordination of discrete processes. The equivalence between the sets of attainable states of SNLNs and safe conventional Petri nets with inhibitor arcs is shown.

Keywords: Petri nets, discrete processes, structured neural-like networks.
