Abstract: The authors propose to employ Determisistic and Stochastic Petri Nets (DSPNs) for Performance analysis of CSMA/CD LAN's with deterministic collision resolution. The authors describe a general approach to represent the probabilistic nature of duration of the selection phase by means of DSNPs. Furthermore, the proposed modeling approach takes into account the finite number of stations and their distribution along the bus. To illustrate the feasibility of the proposed method two medium access control protocols with limited contention are analyzed. The considered protocols are hybrids of CSMA/CD with the Broadcast Recognition Access Method (BRAM) and the Multi-Accessing Tree Protocol, respectively.
