Abstract: In designing a shop floor controller for a flexible cell, interactions between the different functions must be established. A distributed microprocessor-based architecture is described and a two-level machine tool synchronization structure is presented. The specification of the machine tool (and robot) functions working as a concurrent and cooperative system is given in terms of Petri nets.
