Abstract: The author deals with selected problems concerning the self-modification of measuring systems. The goal of these considerations is to suggest new method of synthesis and analysis systems of that kind. Suggested method uses graphs, nets and modified Petri nets described by means of minimax algebra. It's special feature is, it can be applied to deal with either hardware (structure) changes or algorithm (software) modifications. It can also be used for designing some diagnostic mechanisms for measuring system. In this contribution formal definitions of the applied mathematical instrumentation and a description of the method are given. Considerations are illustrated by an example of r.p.m. measuring system for rotating machines
