Abstract: Industrial systems become more and more complex and a lot of implications can be identified which generally influence system design and development. The paper discusses these implications based on experiences in system modeling and demonstrated by industrial applications. This results in the concept of a methodology which is described by different aspects of system modeling and by the features of the modeling tool TOMSPIN used within product developments. Known limitations offer the potential evolution of current methods and motivate future work improving system development and system evaluation
