Abstract: Recent research using Petri-net theory as applied to the design and analysis of flexible manufacturing systems is reviewed. In particular, one of the most flexible of manufacturing line structures is discussed, the robot lattice structure, which is analysed using a new form of timed Petri-nets, termed binary timed Petri Nets (BTPNs). A graphical modelling language for BTPNs is also briefly discussed.
