Abstract: Petri-nets have become a popular way of representing systems such as FMS. The authors describe how they have created a framework which allows the co-ordination of hierarchical planning and control systems for production management with the hierarchical needs of networked systems. This framework may be expressed in control theoretic terms and may also be simulated numerically.

Keywords: simulation, numeric; hierarchical planning (and) control system; flexible manufacturing system.
