Borrowing Conditions

The Library is open to the public.

Library Card

You need a Library Card for the Loan. 
The Library Card can be obtained at the Loan Desk. For the registration the presentation of your identification card or passport inclusive an official verification of residence is necessary.
Students also need a valid student card. You can extend your Library Card to include all libraries of the University of Hamburg.

You can supply your personal information online in advance:

Online-Registration

The Library Card is free of charge for all students and members of the Hamburg University.

Password

With your registration you will get a temporary password, which you need to replace afterwards by choosing an own one. Lost your password?

Loan Period

Books and Reports: 4 weeks
Journals: 1 week

Renewals

If the item is not on reserve, the loan period can be renewed twice. 
After that, the book must be returned. It may be checked out again, if it is not on reserve. 

You should use the Online Catalogue of the Informatics Library for renewals. 
Using the link "Borrower information" you can get an overview of the media you have borrowed, with the option of renewing them. You will be asked for the number of your Library Card (= account number) and password.

Renewals of overdue volumes can be requested at the loan desk only.

Reservations

Only borrowed volumes can be reserved. Please use the Online Catalogue of the Informatics Library.
We will email you, when the book has been returned. Reserved books are kept on hold for 7 days.

Fees

Exceeding the loan period 1.00 € is charged  per volume and week. Reservations cost 0.80 € per volume.
Electronic CashFees can be paid cashless by cash card using the PIN at the cash machine next to the loan desk.  

You will be blocked automatically with outstanding fees exceeding the limit of 10 €. No circulation activities will be possible then.
