Safari Tech Books Online is a full-text database which covers e-books in the domain of Computer Science. It presents publications of O'Reilly, The Pearson Technology Group, Addison Wesley. What books are available in full text?
In order to limit costs, we offer access only to150 titles - not to all available books.
Initially we selected 76 books - resulting of the access statistics during the trial period.
Via the Safari interface you can get an overview of all available books with preview of each.
Of course, our licenced titles have full access.
Unfortunately there is no possiblity to see a separate list of our licenced books via the Safari interface.
Instead, please use this list of our selected titles.
When and how are new books added?
There are new books available every month. Therefore, a monthly exchange of titles is possible and scheduled.
If you wish to suggest a particular book of your interest, please send a mail to the Informatics Library.
How are contents built-on?
The e-books are contentwise identical to the print editons. The individual chapters however are thematically divided into so-called “sections” in order to reach an increase of the precision from search results. Hits of retrieval queries show therefore apart from the book titles always relevant “sections”, too. The full texts are also indicated in these “section portions” and can be printed out only in such way.
How can you search?
There are two kinds of search: the standard search and the “advanced search”. Here you can can determine more exactly, where in a book your search words are to occur.
Our selected books are scanned completely, with all other books only the previews are scanned. Those are (partially very short) summaries of the “sections”, which are then only indicated as retrieval result, too.
