Information from the Steering Committee meeting in Miami
========================================================

During the Petri net conference in Miami, June 2006, the Steering Committee
made a number of decisions that are of general interest for the PN community.

Future format for the conference
================================

It was recognised that we need to change the format of the conference in
order to attract more participants. This can be done by adding additional
satellite events, such as:

- more workshops
- PhD forum (where PhD students can make short presentations)
- "open" sessions (where everyone can make short presentations)
- poster sessions.

It was also recognised that it will be attractive to continue to co-locate
with other conferences.

It was decided to make a subcommittee to discuss these things in detail and
make recommendations to the steering committee. The subcommittee consists of:

- Wil van der Aalst (chair)
- Jonathan Billington
- Susanne Donatelli

The subcommittee is asked to discuss:

- the format of the conference.
- identify other conferences which could be adequate for co-location.
- discuss the future procedure for submission and selection of workshops
   and advanced tutorials.
- discuss the future role of introductory tutorials.
- all other issues that may be relevant for the future format of the
   conference.

If you have proposals you are welcome to contact the subcommittee.

Future sites for the conference
===============================

It was decided to have the 2007 conference in Siedlce, Poland with Wojciech
Penczek as organiser.

For 2008 there are four candidates:

- Brazil (Campina Grande)
- Canada (Toronto)
- China (Xian)
- Japan (Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka, and several other possibilities)

For 2009 and 2010 there are three candidates:

- France (Paris)
- Germany (Hamburg)
- Switzerland (Geneva)

The SC chair will ask each of the candidates to make a more detailed
description of what they can offer. We will also ask about hotel prizes and
fee. A decision will be made at the SC-meeting in Turku, June 2006.

More candidates are welcome.

Short announcements
===================

It was decided to make the deadlines for submission to the Petri net
conference more explicit:
- November 15: Strict deadline for abstracts.
- November 22: Strict deadline for full papers and tool presentations.

The idea is that the work with the distribution of papers can be done in
the week Nov. 15-22.
The name of the conference has been changed to: "International Conference
on Application and Theory of Petri Nets and Other Models of Concurrency".

After being operated from Aarhus in more than 10 years, the PN mailing
lists and web-pages are now maintained by the Petri Net group at University
of Hamburg. The SC would like to thank University of Aarhus for initiating
the Petri Nets World Website and hosting it for 10 years. In particular,
the outstanding contribution of Kjeld Mortensen in maintaining the website
and moderating the e-mail lists is very gratefully acknowledged by all the
Petri net community. The SC is also grateful to the Hamburg group for
taking over this responsibility, which is very important for our community.
