Breakaway
[Trevor Lucas, Ian Mason]
Trevor Lucas sang and played his wonderful even rhythm guitar on this song, written and performed with Ian Mason, his partner in Blue & Curly, a band name used by the pair for Australian film music projects in the 80s. Breakaway came from an 1985 road movie called Slate, Wyn and Blanche McBride. The plot is two guys do a robbery, are on the run, take a female hostage (Sigrid Thornton), and then compete for her attention as they avoid the manhunt.
Among three other tracks from this movie (Land of the Free, Only a Shot in the Dark and Maxine), this song appears with a steam engine FX intro on Together Again - The Attic Tracks Vol. 4. A different mix is on The Attic Tracks CD, with backing vocals throughout. The steam train intro has gone and it now begins with a long building rhythm guitar intro before Trevor bursts into one great train song. Brian Holloway, from Esparanto Rock Orchestra, plays lead guitar.
