Running Renew requires a Java 17 runtime environment (JRE). The installation instructions contain hints where you can find a suitable Java virtual machine.
Base, Source and Plugins
Renew is currently available in version 5.0-Pre (since January 26, 2026).
- Base package (zip, 10.6 MByte) includes core plugins as executable jar files, the documentation and sample nets.
- Source package (zip, 21.3 MByte) includes source files for core and optional plugins of Renew (for more detail on how to build the source package using Gradle, see the installation instructions).
- Windows installer (exe, 78.8 MByte) installs the base package and provides an executable to launch Renew.
- Mac OS X application bundle including optional plugins (12.3 MByte).
- Optional plugins for the current version.
You can also download old versions of Renew. However those are no longer supported.
Documentation
The main documentation is the user guide. It offers information on installing, upgrading and the release history, introduces the reference nets formalism from a practical perspective with many examples and provides in-depth treatment of the Renew tool.

Renew Packages
Renew Analysis
(experimental)This package includes the MoMoC plugin, with which reference nets and other net formalisms can be analyzed.
- ZIP-Archive (zip, 13.0 MByte)
Renew CCPN
(experimental)This package includes the CCPN and RGBase plugins, with which Curry-coloured Petri nets can be simulated.
- ZIP-Archive (zip, 10.6 MByte)
Renew IDE
(experimental)This package augments the Base package by adding the following plugins: ImageNetDiff, MiniMap, NavigatorDiff, NavigatorVC, NavigatorGit, FAFormalism, FA-base, FS.
