Abstract: The research activities at the Laboratorio di Informatica Musicale (LIM) of the University of Milan in Italy cover many areas in the field of computer applications to music. The main goals of LIM are the definition of formal methods and the implementation of software and hardware tools to process music at various abstraction levels. Topics covered by various projects carried out since 1975 include (among many others) the description and performance of musical processes by means of Petri nets.
