Abstract: A study of hypertext is put forward looking at the topic both from a point of view of how adequately the notion of `hyper' is defined and implemented, and how adequate the view of `text' taken is. Approaches to hyperisation such a semantic nets and Petri nets are considered and evaluated. Further the view of text by most systems is analysed and evaluated.
