Abstract: This paper describes usual approaches to design or evaluate distributed algorithms by Petri net models. The first part explains the terms ``design and evaluation'', ``distributed algorithms'', and ``Petri net models''. In the main part about 40 applications are examined, six of which are selected for more detailed description.
