Abstract: A two-level scheme for monitoring and diagnosis in automated manufacturing systems is proposed and developed. At the first level, there are diagnostic systems for each of the subsystems. At the second level there is an intelligent controller monitoring the part flow and coordinating the local diagnostic systems and controllers. It is assumed that local controllers and diagnostic systems exist for subsystem level fault detection and diagnosis, and a Petri-net-based intelligent controller for system level fault detection and diagnosis is presented.
